light at the end of the tunnel, and other clichés

In the last couple of weeks, hope, or the lack thereof, has been a common theme in the circumstances of people around me. Consequently I’ve been inclined to mull over the concept of hope, particularly how it is perceived by many as nothing more than a vague, meaningless and baseless abstraction.

I think I should deal with hope in this piece that I’m working on. I know we all need a good dose of it.

The tricky part, of course, is presenting hope in a fresh, palatable and real way. The temptation to go formulaic in terms of character and plot development may just be too great, and falling for it will definitely be disastrous.
